Souillac...
In 2018 I have decided to give the floor to Thomas de Pourquery, who was named artist of the year at the most recent Jazz Victories award ceremony. He delighted spectators at the Souillac jazz festival in 2015 and this year returns with his brand of jazz inspired by love.
The extraordinary thing about jazz is that it feeds on so many other types of music. We try to let it carry us away, we just try to play and be connected … convey the music …and when we succeed in doing that, the result is a magnificent circle.”*
Come and be carried away by jazz with its many echoes of chamber music or world music, of electronic, folk, punk and rock music or just jazz.
Come and be carried away by Whispering Souls in the caves at Lacave with Alioune Koné playing the kora and Olivier Py on the saxophone, by the Indian rhythms of Rudresh Mahanthappa in partnership with the Festival of Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, by a “Django”, a precious metal forged by a silversmith called Théo Ceccaldi, who won the award for most promising artist at the Jazz Victories award ceremony and whose poetic music enhances the brilliance of the master who inspires it.
Come and be carried away by one of the most emblematic figures of contemporary jazz in the person of Joshua Redman who marries the tradition of jazz with a multitude of other types of music as borne out by his encounters with Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones and Quincy Jones.
The 2018 festival will draw a magnificent circle.
